Hello and welcome to the research study at the Department of Genetic Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine. The purpose of this study is to learn more about the specific causes of lung diseases, how lung diseases manifest and progress, and how lung diseases can be treated.

The study requires 2 separate visits:

1) Screening Visit (3-5 hours), $50 Compensation

  • You must complete all 5 tests (general physical exam, blood and urine tests, EKG, chest x-ray and breathing test)
  • The screening visit determines your eligibility to undergo the bronchoscopy procedure. If you are eligible, your bronchoscopy visit will be scheduled 3-5 weeks later.

2) Bronchoscopy Visit (3-4 hrs), $200 Compensation:

  • A bronchoscopy is a standard procedure to check the airways of the lungs and lasts about 45 minutes.
  • You will be given a local anesthetic and a sedative. This means that you will be fully asleep or half asleep during the procedure.
  • The procedure uses a flexible tube (equivalent to the size of a thin straw) that will be inserted into your lungs in order to investigate the health of your lungs.
  • You will require an escort to take you home after the bronchoscopy. Your escort will be compensated $25.
